Millwall’s Slam programme attended Crystal Palace’s Inclusive Eagles Tournament last Friday at Crystal Palace’s Training Ground.
Our Millwall Slam Health Intervention programme has a team which plays in the Adult Premiership League and welcomes anyone with mental health issues to get involved with our free weekly football session which help improve fitness and well-being. We run a weekly afternoon football sessions in partnership with the South London and Maudsley (SLAM) and MIND. Participants must be referred before attending the sessions.
The tournament had two leagues - the Premiership and the Championship - with Millwall’s Slam playing in the Premiership playing against teams such as Chelsea, Southwest Inclusive, Run Free Crystal Palace and Estudiantes.
There was some really good competitive fixtures and Millwall’s Slam side were able to push themselves out of their comfort zones by playing new teams.
They take part in a monthly South London Special League hosted at Long Lane FC, with this tournament being something a bit different for them to take part and gauge their abilities.
Millwall’s Slam team won two matches and drew one as they finished third. Southwest Inclusive won the league with Millwall, Chelsea and Crystal Palace all finishing on seven points with goal difference separating the sides.
All participants had a fantastic experience and we are looking forward to the next tournament.
