MCT Post 16 Football Academy

Millwall Community Trust offers a unique opportunity for passionate 16 – 18-year-olds football players, both male and female, to pursue a 2-year Football & Education Scholarship - scroll down for more details!

Learners will have the opportunity to enhance and develop their technical and tactical knowledge through an extensive football development and education programme.

MCT will be launching a female post-16 in September 2026!

Under the guidance of highly experienced and qualified academy UEFA licensed coaches, learners will train up to 9 hours per week – training will focus on the development of individual technical, tactical and physical attributes and will be supplemented by a weekly competitive games programme.

Alongside this, students will also have the opportunity to complete a range of qualifications including a BTEC Level 3 in Sport and/or A-Levels.

Who is eligible to join MCT's Post-16 Programme?

Applicants must be aged 16-18 at the start of the academic year in September and hold a British passport or have legal residency status in the UK.

When does the programme start?

The course starts in line with the academic year in September. However, a pre-season training programme commences in late June to prepare players physically and mentally for the season ahead.

What are the requirements to join the programme?

Players should have a keen interest in football and sports, experience of playing in a team environment and commitment to learning and developing football skills whilst gaining a sports qualification.

How often do players train?

There are three training sessions per week, totalling to around six hours training time per week.

When are matches played?

Matches are played on Wednesdays. Selected players will play either at home or away, depending on where a fixture is scheduled to take place. For away games, players will travel locally or further afield by minibus or by public transport if the location is within a short radius of the home ground.

Is match kit provided?

Yes. Match kit is supplied on game days and collected post-match, then cleaned in readiness for the next fixtures.
