Millwall Community Trust Education & Employability Manager John Scarborough attended the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) Conference.

The event was attended by the Minister for Education, Alison McGovern, to highlight the power of football to engage those seeking education, employment or training.

MCT’s Education & Employability Manager John Scarborough alongside Foundation of Light and Arsenal Foundation discussed their vital role in communities.

Through programs like The Training Ground Programme EFL Club Community Organisations provide tailored support to young people and adults who are not in education or employment. Importantly, participants gain valuable work experience both within the football club and with local businesses, opening doors to new career paths.

£129 million in social value was generated in 23/24 alone, through improvements in participants’ earnings and cost savings from better educational, training, and employment outcomes. This includes £24 million in savings from reduced numbers of young people not in education, training, or employment.

John Scarborough, MCT’s Education and Employability Manager said: “It was great to attend and represent both Millwall Community Trust and EFL in the community to showcase the fantastic and innovative employability work that football community trusts can provide in their local areas.”.

“The employability programmes delivered at Millwall Community Trust, particularly our newly created on-site Millwall 16-24 Youth Employability and IAG HUB in partnership with DWP and supporting local JCP’s, provide an alternative 16-24 employment support space which is testament to such innovation.”
