Millwall Community Trust (MCT) Bursary Fund is well underway and has been providing support for the local community.
The Bursary Fund was set up just last month and created with the intention to tackle financial hardships. Individuals participating in an MCT activity or programme can apply for the Bursary Fund and use it to help further their career and potential at MCT.
One recipient of the Bursary Fund expressed how the funds received have already helped, they said:
“I would like to express a huge thank you to the Millwall FC Bursary Fund Scheme, without whom, I simply would not have been able to purchase my new pair of glasses.
"Why get all excited over just a pair of glasses?!" some may ask. Well, this is how my time of need unfolded from a series of unfortunate events.
“As an unpaid carer to my disabled daughter and to my wife with a severe mental illness, during a global pandemic, it has taken a devastating toll on my family's finances and savings.
“So much so, my wife who was the main household earner, lost her job after 34 years of service, last October.
“Just before Christmas, money was getting exceedingly tight for us. As I carried out one of my caring tasks pushing a wheelchair, I dropped my pair of glasses and unwittingly ran over them, breaking the lens and frame. I managed to salvage, make do and mend for 4 months, but alas, this fix was only a temporary one.
“I literally had no available funds, so I had to turn to carers organisations, family, and friends for help to buy a replacement pair, but without success.
“As a last chance, I turned to Millwall FC Bursary Fund Scheme for help, and I was grateful and excited with their response.
“Thank you once again, to Sean Daly and the Bursary Fund Scheme team, for coming to my hour of need in a crisis.
I am eternally grateful to you.”
The Bursary Fund has continued to grow, with MCT constantly finding ways to put more donations towards it. Recently, MCT held an auction for one-of-a-kind signed Millwall FC player jerseys. The proceeds from the highest bidders of the auction all went to MCT’s Bursary Fund.
Sean Daly, CEO of the Trust, said: “We’re glad to see that the Bursary Fund has already had such an impact on lives. It has been trying times, and we wanted to do what we can to ease the financial burden for people.
“The auction is just one of the ways we’ve managed to receive donations towards the Bursary Fund. We look forward to helping more people, as we continue to find different ways to fund the Bursary.”
The next auction for another 3 signed Millwall FC player jerseys will start today. These funds will go towards further funding the Bursary and helping participants of Millwall Community Trust programmes.
