Millwall Community Trust's (MCT) Mental Health Ambassador Joe Bryan attended Phoenix Primary School this afternoon as part of the ‘Premier League Primary Stars’ Programme.
Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.
The programme has been developed and is managed by the Premier League Charitable Fund, a Premier League funded charity which aims to create positive and lasting sporting, health and education outcomes for children, young people and the wider community.
Today’s topic was Anti-Discrimination alongside Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) which was ran by MCT’s Primary Stars and Schools Co-Ordinator Emily Poole, EDI Lead Jason Vincent and was supported by Millwall FC Left-Back Joe Bryan.
The attendees looked through a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of inclusion and always making people feel welcome.
Bryan highlighted the importance of talking through your feelings when you are struggling as well as giving the children an opportunity to ask him questions in a general Q&A which they have always wanted to know the answer to.
The afternoon concluded with Joe Bryan handing out children books which reflect diversity aimed at promoting education and inclusivity.
Jason Vincent, Millwall Community Trust’s EDI Lead said: “As part of MCT’s and Millwall Football Club’s commitment to EDI, our vision is to be reflective and representative of the communities in which we serve.
“Education is an important component to ensuring this vision. It was a pleasure for us to visit Phoenix Primary School and to present teachers and pupils with diverse books aimed at promoting education and inclusivity.
“Thank you to Joe Bryan for speaking and sharing your experiences around Mental Health and best ways to cope as well as highlighting the importance of EDI and bringing people together.”
Emily Poole, Millwall Community Trust’s Primary Stars and Schools Co-Ordinator said: “What a great experience for the children to have Joe Bryan come into their school and talk through an anti-discrimination workshop.
“It just shows what Millwall Community Trust is all about, helping in the local area, and the players doing this will make such an impact on these children."
