Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills. The programme has been developed and is managed by the Premier League Charitable Fund, a Premier League funded charity which aims to create positive and lasting sporting, health and education outcomes for children, young people and the wider community.
As part of the programme, schools that work with the Millwall Community Trust (MCT) get access to compete in tournaments at local, regional and potentially national levels as well as other exciting opportunities.
Fairlawn Primary School recently won MCT’s local tournament of partner schools and earned the chance to represent Millwall Community Trust at the Premier League Primary Stars U11 Girls Regional Tournament hosted at Arsenal FC’s amazing training ground on Wednesday afternoon.
Fairlawn Primary School did extremely well against lots of schools from across London, coming second in the group stage and eighth place in the Knockout stage – just missing out to the eventual winners.
At the final presentation, Fairlawn Primary School received certificates and a mini football as well a memories that will live with the players forever.
Emily Poole, Millwall Community Trust’s Primary Stars and Schools Co-ordinator said: “What a fantastic day for our schools’ partner Fairlawn Primary School. It is a pleasure to work with schools in our local community offering them access to fantastic resources and lessons direct from the Premier League, engaging children, and really making a difference to the children of Lewisham and Southwark. These sorts of experiences inspire the next generation and we would love to create partnerships with more of our local schools to really make a difference.”
