On Friday 17th January, MCT's AP Conisborough College cohort had the pleasure of a visit from Duane Ramsey who is an ambassador for The Skills Centre & has worked closely with the trust on various programmes involving employability opportunities for young people in Southwark & Lewisham.

The Millwall AP Academy Programme is a part-time alternative education provision delivered by the trust and acts as a precursor to our post-16 football academy programme.

Duane delivered a mini workshop around construction & also CV writing with the Year 11 group.

Joey Taylor, MCT’s AP Tutor said: “The visit from Duane was excellent for the young people we have on the AP programme. The insight into the world of construction & the different routes that can be taken were a real eye opener for them & without a doubt has made them think about what they want their future to look like.

“The knowledge shared by Duane around CV writing was equally as eye-opening. The next 2 years of these young people's lives is extremely important & stepping into the unsheltered real world can understandably be quite daunting, so providing them with essential life skills & workshops from people in the industry is vital for us."

Duane Ramsey, Skills Centre Ambassador said: “In January 2025, The Skills Centre, in collaboration with MCT, visited Conisborough College to deliver a “Steps into Construction” session.

“This workshop was designed to foster an open conversation about what it’s like to work in construction.

“The second part of the session focused on helping students craft and present their CVs to potential employers.

“At The Skills Centre, visiting schools and academies is incredibly meaningful to us. It allows us to spark interest in our field and provide accurate, expert insights to students.

“Following our visit, several students have shared their details and are actively inquiring about training opportunities with us, eager to learn and earn in the industry.

“We’re looking forward to returning and providing them with an exciting update on their journey!"

Maryann, a student at Conisborough College in Year 11 said: “I enjoyed the workshop with Duane it was very helpful and was really informative, I now know the path I want to take and the steps that I need to take."
