The Mayor of Southwark, Cllr Catherine Rose, has visited Millwall Community Trust to meet with pupils from across our Education and Employability programmes, as well as visiting the children on both our October Half-Term Soccer Schools and our L&Q Multi-sports programme, funded by L&Q Housing Association. This visit came as a result of Millwall Community Trust winning an Outstanding Contribution award from the Myor earlier this year, Mayor Catherine Rose said: “This was such a wonderful way to kick off the half term holiday by visiting the fantastic sports activities for local children at the Lions Centre. Really inspiring to see the work of the Millwall Community Trust in action, having a huge positive impact on the lives of so many young people.” “From elite academy players through to multi-sport taster sessions for young primary school pupils, the Trust has a programme to suit everyone.” “I was delighted to be greeted by the young trainee staff progressing to vocational apprenticeships and then onto a lively Question Time with the children from the holiday camps!” “The Millwall Community Trust is exactly that, trusted and valued by the various local communities in South London.” “It offers young people fantastic opportunities to shape their own lives and a chose from a wide variety of careers. The provision is world class, in a league of its own. I look forward to working with the Trust throughout my year as Mayor and supporting a number of initiatives that can benefit them and hopefully other local clubs.” “I see the work of the Millwall Community Trust as further evidence of what could be developed at Champion Hill with Dulwich Hamlet and Gavin Rose’s ASPIRE programme. It makes me even more determined to get the club back home!” Our Football Development Manager, Sean Daly, said: "After winning the award back in July, it was fantastic to be able to welcome the Mayor to the Lions Centre." "The mayor was brilliant at engaging with the young children on our holiday courses, and I know they all took something away from her visit." "All of us here at MCT are very much looking forward to the opportunities for collaborative work with the Mayor and her chosen charities for the year." MCT will be working closely with the mayor on a range of programmes over the coming months, so watch this space!
