Millwall have made history by being the first club in London to work with The Fest Hub and encourage young people into STEM through football.

This week, Millwall Community Trust (MCT) went to The Fest Hub’s first-ever ‘StemFest’ Activity and Awards day. The Fest Hub exists to bridge the gap between large STEM corporations, secondary schools and professional football clubs. MCT has been working with The Fest Hub to encourage more children to get into the world of STEM through football.

For the past few weeks, the students were given the task of redesigning “The Den”, and the day was a chance to showcase their hard work.

Sean Daly, CEO of Millwall Community Trust, said: “It was a fantastic day! The work the young people have put into their projects in the past few weeks have really come alive today.

I think it’s great that as a Community Trust we can encourage young people to go into different fields within the football world with our different programmes. For example, our Second Chance Academy, our Post-16 education, and to now reach a point where we can encourage careers in STEM is a great achievement”.

During the event, the young people also had the opportunity to learn coding through football using interactive Sphero Sports mats.
After the event, the organisers took to Instagram and said: “It was a huge success and it was great to see all the students, volunteers, guests, partners & associates really engaged and happy with the event. We would also like to congratulate our founder, Emmanuel Afolabi, for putting this all together. This is the first of many and we look forward to what the future holds!”
