Today is #iWill Power of Youth Day 2023 and we spoke to Kyler Drameh who volunteered during the recent Millwall Community Trust Community holiday camps.
Power of Youth Day provides an opportunity to say thank you and showcase the amazing stories and impact of young people.
Kyler is on Millwall Community Trust’s Second Chance Academy where he studies throughout the week.
But during his half-terms and holiday’s he has offered his time to help out at the holiday camps.
Kyler Drameh said: “I can give back to the community by volunteering and it’s good to learn different skills and great to interact with the children.
“It is something I would recommend to someone who is thinking about offering their time to volunteer. If you haven’t thought of it before I’d definitely recommend it.
“It’s a good experience for the kids that are there, a great opportunity for the children and the coaches there are excellent.
“It's definitely a learning experience for someone like me who can learn from the coaches and how they operate and how they manage the kids.”
John Scarborough, Education and Employability Manger, added: “Kyler, since joining on the Second Chance Academy has excelled with his commitment and attitude to support not just his trainee colleagues on the programme but in the community.
“He’s supported on our programmes and most recently our holiday camps where he was a real credit to the programme and himself in the way he engaged young people.
“Kyler has aspirations to work in the professional football industry and I’m in no doubt that these experiences of working with different sectors of the community will benefit his understanding of that a club is more than just a first team, and that there is a wider remit and requirement of that job role.
“He’s gained that skill set over the last month or so to be able to get the experience needed on his CV that will hopefully get him to the career he wants to do.”
