On April 2, we celebrate Autism Awareness Day, a special day to learn more about autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Did you know that ASD is more common in boys than girls? Girls often don’t get diagnosed because their symptoms don’t match the usual stereotypes, and they hide them better.
This day is about understanding people with ASD and being kinder to them.
Autism Spectrum Disorder is a condition that affects how people behave and communicate.
The word “Autism” first appeared in 1911 when a doctor used it to describe certain symptoms. In the 1940s, two doctors, Dr. Leo Kanner and Hans Asperger, helped us understand autism better.
World Autism Awareness Day was officially established by the United Nations in 2007 to encourage countries to talk about ASD and support research.
