Millwall Football Club is extremely saddened to inform supporters of the passing of Ted Wilding, the club’s lead Historian, aged 83.
Ted, a lifelong supporter who saw his first Lions match aged six, dedicated his life to Millwall for over 70 years.
Following a long career with the Post Office, Ted undertook numerous tasks with The Lions; he selflessly volunteered, wrote, displayed, organised, researched and produced, helping out with the matchday programme, on The Den’s turnstiles, with Stadium Tours, club events and anything else he could be involved with, becoming the first port of call for advice and knowledge.
Ted, a congenial and humorous companion, was raised in Walworth, enjoyed pie ‘n’ mash and would speak to everyone on his rounds as turnstile supervisor in SE16 – a role which blossomed from his days beginning as a turnstile operator at The ‘old’ Den.
Ted leaves behind his beloved daughter Julie.
Everyone at Millwall Football Club and Millwall Community Trust sends their condolences to Ted’s family and friends at this very sad time.
Rest in peace, Ted. You will be sorely missed by all who knew you.
