Millwall Community Trust hosted a Stewarding Taster Session for London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s Local Supported Employment programme.
The event which started at 12pm was delivered by Millwall Community Trust Education and Employability Manager John Scarborough and started with a tour of Millwall Community Trust’s Lions Centre. It was an opportunity for participants to see a bit more of what MCT do in the local community.
Following on from this, Millwall’s Health and Safety, Security and Operations Manager Neil Robinson joined the group to take the participants on a tour of Millwall Football Club’s Stadium, The Den.
During the tour, the participants were given exclusive access which was a great experience for all but also linked to what a match day is like from a stewarding perspective.
All participants were able to ask Neil Robinson questions throughout the tour before a presentation was shown to all on match day stewarding and some insights into it.
Ophelie Zahui, Millwall Community Trust’s Traineeship Officer said: “"It was great to host our first Training Ground Programme Stewarding Taster Day in partnership with Millwall FC, JCP and Employment 4 All.
“The day was a huge success providing a behind the scenes look at stewarding in a professional football club. Neil provided a detailed tour and Q&A for the aspiring young stewards.
“The next steps will see the group enrol on their Stewarding Spectator Safety L2 and once completed be supported by our training ground mentoring team to get employment in the industry.”
Claudia Maris, “We recently had the pleasure of visiting Millwall FC with our participants on LBBD’s Local Supported Employment programme. It was an incredibly successful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. We received a warm welcome from the moment we arrived, and we were greeted by all the staff with friendliness and enthusiasm..
“The stewarding taster event and guided tour of the stadium was professional, informative and engaging.
“John and Neil shared fascinating insights into the club’s history, the players, and the behind-the-scenes operations. It was evident that they are passionate about the club.
“We feel this is an exciting opportunity to work with a great club to offer potential employment opportunities for our participants in a safe, friendly and supported environment.”
Charlie, a participant on the day added: “We went as a group to the stewarding taster day at Millwall FC.
“It was a very positive experience like being shown around the stadium, learning about the different roles, and seeing the trophies and the Conference Room was the best experience! I am really keen to get a job and build a career with Millwall FC.”
