Millwall Lionesses Manager Ted Jones was ‘very happy’ with his side making the semi-finals and insists ‘we’re up for the challenge’ against Fulham.
Ted Jones’ side face Fulham this Sunday in the semi-finals of the league cup at St Paul’s (1:30pm kick-off).
Ted, firstly give us your thoughts on last weekend’s 7-3 win?
We're really happy with the result and to make it to a semi-final. Over the 90 minutes we were really disappointed with our performance levels but had a great reaction going into extra time. It's not often you see a team score five goals in extra time so we can't complain! Credit goes to Leatherhead who are a good side, played some really good football and pushed us all the way.
Four goals from Ciara Watling and an impressive brace from Kayda Townsend, you must be really pleased with their contributions?
Kayda has worked so hard this season so she deserved her opportunity. She's been bright in training and certainly took her chance once she got it, it's not often you see a 16-year old score a bicycle kick with their first senior goal. Ciara really showed why she has played at the level she has, we owe her a few drinks after the performance. She is a real asset to have in the team with her quality and experience certainly helps everyone around her.
A tough match against Fulham this weekend, can you give us your thoughts going into that one?
I don't think you could ask for a tougher semi-final, but we're certainly up for the challenge. We've had a great week at training to prepare so we're looking forward to the game. We're confident in some areas which we feel we can hurt Fulham so we just need to make sure we're focused from the very first second to the last. It'll be great to see as many Lionesses fans down as possible to support the team!
