Millwall Community Trust Employability & IAG Hub success stories: Joe Payn.
The trust via its Employability HUB offers Employability and IAG support programmes for unemployed people of all ages and backgrounds free of charge.
This support includes 1:1 employability mentoring support delivery of weekly targeted pre-employability skills Bootcamp programmes, industry sector workshops, job fairs and recruitment events as well as training and education support.
Joe Payn attended Job Centre Plus, Peckham where he was referred Millwall Community Trust’s Employability & IAG Hub.
Joe attended Millwall Community Trust’s Employability sessions where he was able to improve his confidence and helped him look for work experience and volunteering opportunities.
Through this, Joe now volunteers at the British Heart Foundation as a Book-Keeper.
As well as that, Joe is still mentored by MCT Employability & IAG Hub Mentor Nicholas Paul which helps him enhance his skills further.
Through these mentoring sessions, Joe is looking at now going to college to get his GCSE’s and further his education.
Joe Payn said: “It was a shame that I hadn’t found out about the hub sooner. It helped me to change my mind about my inability to find work, but even if I am only a volunteer, I still credit the hub in getting the role I am in now.”
Dagmawi Girma, Youth Employability Lead, Job Centre Plus, Peckham said: “Joe was happy to attend IAG at Millwall Community Trust (MCT) and expressed willingness to engage and participate in the pathways set out by MCT.
“He has regularly attended the employability bootcamp at the Youth Hub with MCT to enhance his skills gain confidence to successfully look for work.
“He is now working in a voluntary setting which will further support him in his journey to work.”
Nicholas Paul, Mentor at MCT said: “Joe has really benefited from the one to one approach which focuses on his particular needs and help him work out where he will go next.
Ophelie, Zahui, MCT’s Employability Mentor said: “I’m proud of Joe’s journey so far and am delighted to see his confidence improving. His journey hasn’t ended but the progression he’s making is brilliant to see.
