Millwall Community Trust (MCT) hosted Southwark Council Leader Sarah King and Councillor Portia Mwangangye last week at St Paul’s Sports Ground, Rotherhithe for MCT’s Female sports participation.
After the official opening of the brand-new pitch at St Paul’s, Sarah King and Portia Mwangangye visited the site to witness the great work that MCT do in the community around female sports participation
On arrival, they spoke to MCT CEO Sean Daly and Executive Vice Chairman Peter Varney where they were shown the benefits of coming to these sessions.
Following on from this, the pair got involved in Millwall Lionesses’ Academy sessions where they were given a taster of what sessions involve.
Millwall Lionesses Club Captain Jordan Butler attended and spoke to both about the pathway into the Women’s first-team and the continued development of local players.
Sarah and Portia both were given Millwall shirts with their names on the back which they proudly wore throughout.
Sean Daly, MCT CEO said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Sarah and Portia down to St Paul’s to see the programmes and level of engagement we have around female sports participation.
“It was great for them to see Millwall Community Trust’s sessions in the local community.
“We really enjoyed their visit and look forward to welcoming them back once again very soon.”
Peter Varney, MCT Executive Vice Chairman said: “It was great to see Southwark Council Leader Sarah King and Cabinet Member for Young People Portia Mwangangye come down to St Paul’s Sports Ground to view all the Trust’s female sports participation sessions at first hand.
“They were both great sports and joined in the training sessions with the first team and the junior teams.
“Sarah and Portia both wore the Millwall shirts they were presented with, and I suspect they may be feeling the effect of their exertions!!
"The interest they showed in our efforts to promote female sports participation , which has seen spectacular progress in recent years, is very much appreciated.”
