Millwall FC first-team players Billy Mitchell and Danny McNamara visited Fairlawn Primary School this afternoon.

Millwall Community Trust runs a variety of sessions for schools, and work with a number of partner schools across Southwark, Lewisham, and Kent.

Mitchell and McNamara took part in a Year 6 Joy of moving session.

MCT in partnership with EFL in the Community and Ferrero UK deliver the Joy of Moving programme to thousands of school children in Lewisham and Southwark in South London.

According to research only 30% of boys and 25% of girls aged 5-7 meet the recommended quota of exercise each day.

Such inactivity levels are leading to a variety of issues affecting both physical and mental health.

The Joy of moving programme is designed to help children develop their physical, cognitive and social skills in a fun and educational way.

Mitchell and McNamara took part in activities where the children spoke through healthy living and the importance of being active.

The duo joined the class outside where they took part in physical activity - which included running, catching, dribbling, and tackling all whilst moving.

Emily Poole, Millwall Community Trust’s Primary Stars and Schools Co-Ordinator said: “What a great experience for the children to have Billy Mitchell and Danny McNamara come into their school.

“It just shows what Millwall Community Trust is all about, helping in the local area, and the players doing this will make such an impact on these children.

“It’s just one of many incredible opportunities your school can benefit from when you work with Millwall Community Trust.”
