WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
DIVERT first engaged with Liam in the Lewisham custody suite. Following his release, he reconnected with Custody Coach Steven
by SMS on 27th December 2024, after recovering his phone from police. Contact continued into the New Year, with ongoing
conversations exploring his current situation, goals, and the life events that led to his time in custody.
MORE ABOUT LIAM
Liam is a care leaver and father to a young son for whom he is currently navigating ongoing legal proceedings around visitation.
Since 2015, he has been involved in gang activity, resulting in harm, multiple arrests, and narrowly avoiding prison becoming a
concern for police across South-East London. Now older and more reflective, Liam is showing signs of maturity and a shift in
mindset towards change.
WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
Mainly through phone and WhatsApp consultations Liam has been kept focused and engaged with arrangements for support with
employment, education, or training. With guidance from Custody Coach Steven, he’s built routine, taken accountability, and has
been referred to CGL for a cannabis dependency assessment - marking a positive step toward change.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
Liam has engaged positively across multiple areas. He met Influential Music to explore a business idea, created a CV, and attended
two IAG sessions with My Options. He completed his Health and Safety Level 1 in a Construction Environment with Bounce Back
and is set to take his CITB test. Liam is also exploring a Bricklaying apprenticeship with the Construction Youth Trust, with a second
meeting booked to move things forward and outside of this has joined a gym and started kickboxing.
His continued engagement with DIVERT has been matched by a noticeable reduction in offending behaviour and he is creating a
good impression with those he meets. “It was a pleasure to talk with Liam. He has such enthusiasm and drive I really hope it takes
him to where he wants to be." AJ Haseley of Influential Music
