Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Lammy visited the Borough of Lewisham last week including the Riverside Youth Club in Deptford where he caught up with local partners of Lewisham and Millwall Community Trust (MCT) CEO Sean Daly.

Riverside Youth Club has recently been refurbished - with the £1.2M project being delivered by Lewisham Council in partnership with Youth First and Millwall Community Trust.

MCT CEO Sean Daly explained the trust’s involvement in Riverside Youth Club and the impact it has on the local community.

Lammy visited Riverside Youth Club and was given a guided tour of the newly refurbished Youth Club before engaging with students as part of a Young Mayor Engagement.

The students asked the Deputy Prime Minister questions about their futures and advice on how to get into Politics.

Also in attendance was Lewisham Mayor Brenda Dacres as well as MCT Trustee and Councillor Will Cooper.

To finish off what was a successful morning MCT CEO Sean Daly presented David Lammy with a personalised Millwall shirt.

Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Lammy said: "It was wonderful to visit the Riverside Youth Centre in Evelyn and see the outstanding provision for young people. I had some great conversations with the young mayor, deputy young mayor and other representatives of young people in the borough – with thought provoking questions put to me.

“Millwall Community Trust have worked tirelessly in this part of London, partnering with Lewisham Council. Millwall’s expertise and financial support has been invaluable in getting this centre up and running.

“The community work of football clubs is such an important way to engage and support the local community and I sincerely thank Millwall for their outstanding contribution.  I also thank them also for the shirt, although I will always be a Spurs man!”

MCT CEO Sean Daly added: “It was great to welcome Deputy Prime Minister of the UK David Lammy to Riverside Youth Club.

“It was excellent to be able to talk about the collaborative work MCT do at the site and how much of an impact it makes to our local community.

“We are committed to supporting our local community and we look forward to continuing this great work.”
