Millwall Community Trust (MCT) and Bacon's College have joined forces to launch an exciting new programme combining football development with academic qualification studies.

The programme will run at the College’s site in Rotherhithe , and is aimed at post-16 female students. The academy programme is a mix of high quality football coaching and training along with a bespoke academic pathway.

The programme is open to talented footballers aged between 16-18 years, and is a must for any enthusiast of the sport. A playing trial is required as places will be offered based on ability. On the academic side, students will have a choice of the full range of sixth form qualifications on offer at Bacon's as fully integrated members of the college.

Millwall Community Trust proudly welcomes the partnership and sees it as a major extension to its development of setting up education and football related programmes and pathway for female players into the adult Lionesses team.

Millwall Community Trust Football and Sports Development manager  Dean Palmer, said: “We are excited about the prospect of working with Bacon's College and developing a post-16 education and football academy within the college.

“The football related element of the programme will help develop students’ leadership and coaching skills, as well as increasing their knowledge of sports injury management and many other subject areas related to the game.”.

Mr Pyke, Head of P.E at Bacon's college, added: "From September 2021 we are extremely excited to partner with Millwall Community Trust to provide an all-female 6th form football programme that will combine high quality coaching with academic study at Bacon's Sixth Form College. We know that there is huge interest in football within our College community and are looking forward the prospect of welcoming fantastic female role models into the PE Department and wider life of the College"
