Millwall Community Trust (MCT) Ambassadors Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Leonard visited Conisborough College on Thursday afternoon.
MCT run our Alternative Provision Academy and Represent Literacy intervention programmes in partnership with Conisborough College as well as an after-school football club.
MCT’s Alternative Provision Academy Programme is a part-time alternative education provision delivered by Millwall Community Trust (MCT) both onsite at the school but also offsite at Millwall Community Trust Lions Centre providing pupils with Football and Sport industry experience and Sport & Employability Level 2 qualifications. The AP Academy acts as a precursor to our post-16 football academy programme.
Bradshaw and Leonard started their player visit by giving current Millwall AP academy students their new full Millwall uniform and training kit whilst posing for photographs with them before taking part in a Q&A about their footballing careers.
Following this, both supported our after-school football club and picked the teams that would compete in a round robin tournament as well as encouraging from the sidelines.
Finally, Bradshaw supported the Millwall after-school Represent Intervention programme - which helps the schools year seven students improve their Literacy and oracy skills - and interacted with the students and the year eight Millwall Represent peer mentors who give up their time to help on the programme as well as sitting down and looking through their tasks with them.
John Scarborough, Millwall Community Trust Education and Employability Manager said: “What a fantastic experience for all students involved on the day, it was great to see the young people speaking to Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Leonard and asking them for future advice.
“These visits are excellent for the children’s progress and are inspiring for the next generation, thank you to both Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Leonard for visiting!”
Mrs Thomas, Conisborough College's joint Head of Year nine and School Safeguarding lead said: “Conisborough College has an established working relationship with the Millwall Community Trust who provide outstanding support for groups of our students. We were honoured to host Ryan Leonard and Tom Bradshaw who are two members of the Millwall first team.
“They gave inspirational advice and guidance to our students and presented selected students with Millwall Community trust kit.
“Their positive message 'you can achieve anything if you keep working hard' will inspire our young people to focus and overcome challenges in order to be successful.
“We thank them both, Mr John Scarborough and the dedicated Millwall Community Trust team for their time and effort and hard work that does so much to improve the life chances of our students.”
