Millwall Community Trust is pleased to announce details of its new strategy for girls football ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Following a thorough review of its existing set-up and offering, the Trust has made the decision to start its own female football academy, which will officially launch in September. As part of the new programme there will be teams at U10, U12, U14 and U16 level, with a clear pathway to first team football with the Millwall Lionesses senior team.
On top of the four teams, there will be opportunities for girls as young as seven to take part in introductory football courses as well as two-year education courses for those aged over 16.
“We feel this is a very positive step forward for Millwall Community Trust and for girls football in the local boroughs,” Sean Daly, chief executive, said.
“It is an exciting challenge and one which I know will be fully embraced by all those involved in the new set-up. We are confident that the fresh approach will provide better opportunities for local girls to play more competitive and varied fixtures and tournaments.”
Trials are being held on 14th and 21st June at St Paul’s Sports Ground, Salter Road, Rotherhithe, London SE16 5EF at the following times:
U10s – 10am-11.30am
U12s – 12pm-1.30pm
U14s – 2pm-3.30pm
U16s – 4pm-5.30pm
The trials are subject to appropriate relaxation of existing lockdown measures and guidance relating to the COVID-19 outbreak.
