Millwall Community Trust’s Play on the Pitch Day at The Den was a huge success on Wednesday.
The Premier League Trophy was in attendance throughout the day with all participants of all programmes having a chance to get a picture with it.
Starting at 9:30am in the morning with a Primary Schools Tournament - ten schools were involved in the event.
After an enthralling group stage, the final was played between English Martyrs Primary School and Twin Oaks Primary School with the latter emerging victorious.
Following on from this, Millwall’s Post-16 team faced off against Charlton Athletic’s Post-16 side with the Addicks winning 3-2 in a really competitive fixture.
The United Learning Football Year 10 Tournament kicked off the afternoon, with five teams involved in the competition.
In what was a really well balanced tournament, Bacon’s College A and Bacon’s College B played in the final with the A team coming out victorious.
The United Learning Football Year 9 Tournament followed with three teams involved in the event.
Bacon’s College, Conisborough College and Millwall’s AP Academy took part with Bacon’s College lifting the trophy.
Millwall’s Walking Football session took place on one part of the pitch with over 30 participants in attendance whilst our brand-new Military Veteran Football session also got the chance to play at The Den.
Millwall's Pan Disability session took place at The Den where participants were given a chance to play at The Den.
Ilderton Primary School’s weekly football session which usually takes place at The Lions Centre was held at The Den with all participants given the chance to play on the pitch.
After this, we had our usual Player Development Centre session - which is normally held at St Paul’s Sports Ground - between 4:30-6:00pm.
150 children turned up - which included both our boys’ and girls’ groups - for this special occasion and all left with a smile on their face after having an excellent time.
To finish off the day Millwall Romans faced Stokey FC with The Romans winning the match 2-0 to continue their hopes of a third title win in three years.
Millwall Community Trust CEO, Sean Daly said: “We are delighted with how our Community takeover Play on the Pitch Day went and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves. At the Trust our aim is to create opportunities for participants, and this was shown in the event yesterday.
“We are extremely grateful to the Premier League for bringing the Premier League Trophy - it was brilliant to see all participants getting an opportunity to take a photo with the silverware.
“Thank you to everyone who took part, and we are already planning for next year’s event.”
