Millwall Community Trust (MCT) are incredibly grateful for all of the donations as Military Veterans and MCT staff as part of the Millwall Military Veterans football programme and Military Veteran Football Club prepare to take part in Tommy’s D-Day.
Tommy’s D-Day is a trek from midnight through the North Downs in Kent to raise vital funds to support Royal British Legion Industries. Tommy’s D-Day Trek is a fundraising challenge designed to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in 1944.The Trek starts at midnight at the end of Friday 7th June 2024 and will go through the night until Saturday 8th June at 9am.
The Trek will cover 44km across the Kent countryside, through villages, fields and woodland whilst ending up in the village of Chilham at the historic Chilham Castle. The Route will be marshalled by the Ghurkas and breakfast will be included along the route to keep participants fully fuelled mid-way through the trek.Following this monumental effort Military Veterans and Millwall Community Trust staff as part of the Millwall Military Veterans football programme and Military Veteran Football Club will go one step further and finish the day with a hard earned 5-aside match after carrying the football equipment needed the full route.
MCT are extremely grateful for everyone’s donations with our Just Giving Page currently at just under £2,500 and special mention to John Endicott and Lee Mason from London Lifts Alliance who have donated over £500 for the cause and are also separately joining the walk to show their support.
John Endicott said: “It's a fantastic charity that works so hard both public facing and behind the scenes to help so many ex service personnel who have nowhere else to turn to. “Having met some of these inspirational people I felt compelled to get involved through participation and donation. It's always good to recognise a great cause and give a bit back. ]
“My son Reece attended Millwall Community Trust’s Alternative Provision Academy where they gave him a chance to express his interests and gave him opportunities to excel before starting to shadow Kai Bennett the Media Officer at MCT which is an industry he really wants to get into.
“The trust, and in particular John and Kai, have given my son Reece the opportunity to flourish and have helped mould him into the fantastic young man he is today. This really is great positive partnership between MCT and RBLI!“
John Scarborough, Millwall Community Trust’s Education and Employability Manager, said: “It's been a monumental effort from all to get this set up and know all the team cannot wait for the walk and play the match at the end.
"The RBLI provide such a crucial service for ex military and the trusts Military veteran football programme and Military Veteran Football club are proud to be fundraising for such an organisation.
"There will be some tired legs at the end but am sure this will be all forgotten come the game. Our motto for this has been the lengths military veterans will go for a game a football!"
