Millwall Community Trust (MCT) hosted a World Book Day Event at The Lions Centre on Tuesday.
World Book Day was created to celebrate books, authors, and for young people to enjoy the pleasure of reading. It was established on the 2nd of March in 1995, with the first World book day in the UK & Ireland taking place in 1997.
It has now become a day where children are encouraged to dress as their favourite book characters, they meet some amazing authors, and enjoy the joys of reading.
The event was supported by The Premier League.
Seven schools were in attendance at MCT’s World Book Day event which started at 10am and ran through until 3pm.
All participants were encouraged to dress as their favourite book character with some incredible outfits on display!
Throughout the day there was an opportunity for children to take part in quizzes, crosswords and word searches.
There were three different stations throughout the day, a Trust activity where participants created a Millwall Community Trust football book where it was focused on a journey from school to becoming a professional footballer.
The second station saw children enjoying a stadium tour around Millwall FC’s The Den where they got to go pitchside as well as seeing hospitality areas and the press conference room.
The last station was set up in Millwall’s Billy Neil Lounge where Author Bali Rai delivered a workshop around what makes individuals unique.
The event finished off with certificates and prizes given out for the best books as well as an opportunity to get their book signed by Author Bali Rai.
Emily Poole, MCT’s Primary Stars & Schools Co-ordinator said: “What a great experience for the children to be able to come into The Lions Centre and have such a fun day whilst also learning.
“It just shows what Millwall Community Trust is all about, helping in the local area.
“It’s just another example of what your school could benefit from when you choose to partner with us.
“Finally, a huge thank you to Author Bali Rai for coming in and being such an inspiration to all participants as well as the National Literacy Trust for making the day possible.”
