Millwall Lionesses Assistant Manager Jack Wisson discusses the defeat against Saltdean United but insists he was “very pleased” with the performance.
The Lionesses were defeated 4-2 against Saltdean on Sunday. Their next fixture is
Jack, defeat against Saltdean but despite the loss, how encouraged were you by the performance?
Yes I was very pleased with how we played throughout the game, dealing with the condition of the pitch which was very dry, bobbly. But ultimately have to allude to the fact that we were punished yet again in a 9 minute spell before half time.
The side created plenty of chances and opportunities in the first half hour, it’s just a case of being more clinical and ruthless in front of goal?
Exactly that, we’ve worked extremely hard to get up the pitch and get into those areas on numerous occasions during the game, it’s just that last little bit which has let us down in games against opposition that you know will punish you if you don’t take those chances.
Once again, the side showed plenty of resilience, mounting a comeback that almost got us back into the game, how pleased were you with the continued efforts throughout?
Ted and I never question the attitude, togetherness, and belief the group has every time they step onto the football pitch. We scored straight after we went 4-0 down, continued to fight and battle and got the second, but was too late in the end. If we’d managed to get the first goal without conceding then we may have been speaking about another remarkable comeback but it wasn’t to be.
A week off now until we our penultimate game against Ebbsfleet, what’s your thoughts going into that one?
It gives us a good chance to dissect the game, take individual and collective responsibility where we need to be better and improve. Take the positives from the game, which there were plenty of for the vast majority of the game, and then leading into the game focus on ourselves in how we will set out to win the game, still have the achievable targets to hit in terms of points total and league position. From an Ebbsfleet perspective they’ve been beaten by Newhaven who drew with us the week before, so they will come to us looking for a reaction too no doubt. They’ve been abit of a bogey side to us in recent years so we will be even more determined to end the run of negative results against them.
