Millwall Community Trust’s Military Veteran Football Programme in partnership with Military Veteran Football Club and Royal British Legion visited the National Memorial Arboretum last Saturday.
The National Memorial Arboretum is a space where everyone can celebrate lives lived and remember lives lost.
A beautiful and inspiring place, the 150-acres of the Arboretum form a living landscape, a home for more than 400 memorials waiting to be discovered.
Tales of bravery shown in the most extraordinary of times, selfless service and sacrifice, camaraderie and care are represented by the memorials.
From the Armed Forces and Emergency Services to civilian organisations that supported our Nation in times of need, people from all walks of life are represented by the memorials, with designs that are rich in symbolism reflecting those they remember.
MCT’s Military Veteran Football Programme laid a wreath at the main Armed Forces memorial to the sound of a solo bagpipe.
Jill Merrett, RBL’s County Community Support Co-ordinator Greater London District and Branch Chairman said: “North Bermondsey Branch of The Royal British Legion, took members and veterans on a trip the National Memorial Arboretum.
“Treated to tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival and a land train trip around the site, we had the weather on our side.
“A wreath was laid at the main Armed forces memorial to the sound of a solo bagpipe.
“A meaningful moment to the family. A great trip was had by all.”
