Millwall Community Trust’s (MCT) Alternative Provision (AP) Programme played in a KS3 & KS4 tournament at The Den as part of MCT’s Play on the Pitch Day 2026.
The Millwall AP Academy Programme is a part-time alternative education provision delivered by the trust and acts as a precursor to our post-16 football academy programme.
The AP Academy provides Key stage 4 and Year 9 students opportunities to study towards ASDAN Employability, and industry specific qualifications at Level 1 and 2, YMCA Fitness Activity qualification, whilst partaking in practical, sport-related activities and learning within a professional football industry setting.
The curriculum offers both non-formal theory and practical activities and work experience taster.
Teams involved in the day included Millwall’s AP Academy, Deptford Green School, Cavendish School, Newlands School and New Woodlands School.
All teams had a brilliant day with all participants playing with the right spirit whilst showing excellent quality.
Sam Scott, MCT’s AP Officer said: “To play at The Den is something that will create memories for life and is an opportunity not many people will ever get to experience, we are proud that we are able to provide this to young people in this community.
“This is just another aspect of what our AP Academy can provide to young people who need support and opportunities, they wouldn't get otherwise, to thrive in and out of the classroom.”
Jason Dornelly, Cavendish School’s SMT/PE Co-ordinator added: “What a lovely experience for my students as well as the other students from other schools attending.
“Playing on a professional pitch in a stadium was so exciting for them thank you to the organisers at Millwall for allowing this opportunity something that will live with them all for lifetime.”
A student that took part from Year 10 added: “Playing on the pitch was fun and exciting, it was good to play with other people from other schools.
“English is not my first language so playing football helps me talk to people.”
